Physical Environments

Learners will develop and apply geographical skills and knowledge and understanding of physical environments. Learners will develop and apply knowledge and understanding of the processes and interactions at work within physical environments on a local, regional and global scale. The key topics are the Atmosphere, Lithosphere (coastal and upland glacial landscapes), Biosphere (soils) and Hydrosphere (flooding).

Human Environments

Learners will develop and apply geographical skills and knowledge and understanding of human environments. Learners will develop and apply knowledge and understanding of the processes and interactions at work within urban and rural environments in developed and developing countries.

Global Issues

Learners will develop and apply geographical skills and knowledge and understanding of global geographical issues. Learners will develop and apply knowledge and understanding of significant global geographical issues which demonstrate the interaction of physical and human factors and evaluate strategies adopted in the management of these issues. An appreciation of sustainable development should permeate the global issues studied. The two key topics are River Basin Management and Development & Health.

Assignment

Pupils will carry out a research assignment. The purpose of the assignment is to demonstrate challenge and application by requiring them to draw upon and apply skills, knowledge and understanding within the context of a geographical topic or issue. This includes include identifying a topic or issue, carrying out research and evaluating research methods/sources, processing and using information, analysing information from a range of sources, reaching a conclusion.
