Health and Well-being

Health promotion in schools is not just about encouraging children and young people to eat well and to exercise; it encompasses a much broader holistic approach. This approach is called the 'whole school approach', which includes promoting the physical, social, spiritual, mental and emotional well-being of all pupils and staff and it is an approach that has been adopted by our Academy.

Every pupil in our school is entitled to:

• Opportunities to pursue a healthy and active lifestyle

• Continuous and progressive participation in physical activity

• Opportunities to develop skills for independent living, active   citizenship and financial capability

• Learning opportunities which promote physical, social and   emotional well-being

• Learning opportunities which teaches children’s rights and   promotes respect and responsibility in a variety of new   situations

• Opportunities for active involvement in, and contribution to,    their local communities and wider global and sustainable    issues

• Opportunities to take part in voluntary work and community   service

• Ongoing opportunities to develop  ECO Schools and Rights   Respecting Schools initiatives

Portlethen Academy actively take responsibility in supporting the development of health and wellbeing in children and young people.
